What is it?

The Medifast Diet is a dieting system created by Medifast, Inc.  It is one of their diet plans that requires customers to purchase their dieting food from the company that markets the products.

Description

Products in the Medifast Diet are low-fat, low-carb,  and low-calorie.  This diet allows the customer to stay healthy while losing weight at a substantially faster weight than other diet plans. The company states that their wight loss is greater because the Medifast diet plan induces the body into a state of Ketosis. Ketosis is where fat is burned instead of muscle.

5 & 1 Diet Plan

Medifast’s revolutionary plan is set up so the dieter eats 6 times a day, with each meal about 2-3 hours apart.  They suggest that 5 of the meals are to be purchased from Medifast and the other meal can be purchased on your own and is called the “Lean & Green” meal.

“Lean”
7 ounces (cooked weight) of lean meat (fish, poultry, or seafood) OR
5 ounces of lean beef, pork, or lamb
“Green”
1.5 cups of cooked vegetables  OR
2 cups of salad greens, 1-2 tablespoons low-carb salad dressing, and ½ cup raw vegetables

On a typical day the dieter will consume about 800-1000 calories.
